Friday Afternoon Post (August 18, 2017)

Howdy Folks!

Here's  what we've been doing for the last couple of days!

Reading

We've been actively listening to  various stories being read out loud to us, including Fantastic Mr. Fox and Minecraft: The Island, and while doing so, we practiced forming inferences/opinions using evidence/clues from the text!

Sharing out inferences/opinions!

Writing

We wrote some writing samples for narrative and informational writing genres as a baseline to see how awesome we're doing and to see where we need more support in!

It's awesome  to see when students practice the skill of
rereading in order to revise and edit ON THEIR OWN!
Math

Aside from working with place value, six-digit numbers, and multiplication for this math unit, we're also processing being more aware of the math practices and how we can apply them to our math process! We applied a few MPs while creating a graph (to collect data for the total number of laps/miles that we will run/walk during the school year!). We also took a math assessment as a baseline!

And that's a wrap folks! Cheers, and have a good weekend!

Wednesday Afternoon Edition; August 16, 2017!

Howdy Folks!

We had a pretty swell first day of school! We started the day out getting supplies and materials in order and helping out new students in our class!

During the morning we did some light reading, and practiced how to turn & talk in order to facilitate discussions about what we're reading! We also learned about the origins of the phrase Pandora's Box by listening to the myth itself!

During math today, we reviewed the interpretation and representation of five-digit numbers in different ways including using abacuses, numeral expanders, and written words! A little review doesn't hurt:)

We had our first PE class with Ms. Edgar!

And near the end of the day we worked on our social skills with the other 4th grade classes!

And that's a wrap! Cheers, and have a good one folks!
