Friday Afternoon Post (August 30, 2019)

Howdy Folks!

Here's what we've been up to this week!

Writer's

We worked on additional strategies for generating ideas and made sure to focus on adding a description of character's feelings during the intense part of the story!

We also discussed what to do, when we're done with the story we've written...

Of course, practicing writing stamina as well, and we're working on trying to write for a full 30 minutes without distractions! On top of that, a handful of us practiced reading with voice and vigor!

Reader's

We worked on recording an important moment, and sharing our thoughts with textual evidence!

We also discussed HOW to determine if a moment in the stories that we're reading is actually an important moment!

On top of that, we practiced discerning what is a Great Fit book versus a book that might be too challenging...

...And we're working on our class library by separating genres into sub categories!

Math

Working on understanding the multiplicative relationship in the place value system! We're also revisiting the Doubles Strategies for twos, fours, and eights! We're also utilizing the decomposing strategy to help with multiplication as well!

And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers!

Friday Evening Post

Howdy Folks!

Let's see what we've been working on this week!

Reader's Workshop

In Reader's Workshop, we've been noticing and noting important parts in the book that we are reading. We then practice recording our thoughts and inferences on those parts!

We're also working on reading stamina, and are working towards reading for a full hour!

Writer's Workshop

During Writer's Workshop this week, we practiced strategies to generate ideas for narrative writing! We also practiced the skill of describing feelings and emotions in the stories we are writing!

Math Workshop

During Math Workshop this week, we've been practicing showing, verbalizing, and writing six digit numbers in a variety of ways! We placed an emphasis on understanding the structure of the place value chart during the work that we did! We also concentrated heavily on practicing routines and expectations when working in a collaborative group!

We also took an online math assessment which was very arduous, but we understood to try our very best and not stress!

We also had our first foray into Library Time with our librarian, Mrs Fowler, along with a first foray in Music Workshop with Mr. Volkar!

And there was a chance this week for Student Council speeches!

And I think that about does it! Cheers, and have a most excellent weekend!
