Friday Afternoon Post (March 6, 2020)

Howdy Y'all!

Let's see what we've been working on this week...

Science

We explored the characteristics of minerals in Science Lab with Mrs. Sechrist!

Math
This week, we used an area model to help solidify our understanding of relationships between the numerators and denominators of equivalent fractions. We then use the relationships to calculate equivalent fractions.

Our next lesson had us compare common fractions that have related denominators. We identified the relationship between the denominators to change one fraction only.

Today we used common multiples to help convert fractions to the same denominator to make comparisons. We also consider strategies for finding common denominators in order to compare fractions.

Reader's

We practiced making inferences with the novels we are reading, especially focusing in on having a thorough explanation by using transitions and sentence starters as a way to help us record our thinking!

Writer's
We focused on writing awesome persuasive pieces during the WPA by using persuasive-writing strategies and referring to our writer's checklist for additional persuasive tips and tricks!

We had Crazy Hair/Hat/Sock Day on Monday in honor of Read Across America!

And that's a wrap folks! Cheers!

Friday Afternoon Post (February 28, 2020)

Howdy Folks!

Let's see what we did this week!

Reader's

During reader's Workshop, we utilized our keyword strategy to take notes on the topic of climate change

We also continued to work on making inferences, providing proof/evidence, and an explanation as support for our thinking!

Writer's

We referred to the writer's checklist to revise our persuasive essay. We focused on using the strategy of including examples from our own lives to support our reasons and our thesis. We also emphasized or repeated keywords that would make the reader feel emotions.

We also honed our prompt writing skills, in preparation for next week's WPA!

Math

We reviewed multiplying and dividing fractions! And then we had an assessment on these concepts. We then started a new unit in math, first reviewing rules of comparing fractions, and then applying those rules in our work!

Cheers, y'all! Have an excellent weekend!
