Friday Afternoon Post (February 28, 2020)

Howdy Folks!

Let's see what we did this week!

Reader's

During reader's Workshop, we utilized our keyword strategy to take notes on the topic of climate change

We also continued to work on making inferences, providing proof/evidence, and an explanation as support for our thinking!

Writer's

We referred to the writer's checklist to revise our persuasive essay. We focused on using the strategy of including examples from our own lives to support our reasons and our thesis. We also emphasized or repeated keywords that would make the reader feel emotions.

We also honed our prompt writing skills, in preparation for next week's WPA!

Math

We reviewed multiplying and dividing fractions! And then we had an assessment on these concepts. We then started a new unit in math, first reviewing rules of comparing fractions, and then applying those rules in our work!

Cheers, y'all! Have an excellent weekend!

Friday Afternoon Post (Febrauary 7, 2020)

Howdy Folks!

Let's see what we've been up to this week...

Math
Students determined the best partitions of four-digit dividends that make them easily divisible by a one-digit divisor. We then divide in parts to find the partial quotients and add the partial quotients to find the total quotient.

Students also use an area model to multiply in situations where the number of groups is a whole number and the number in each group is a fractional amount. Students consider what happens to the numerators and denominators when multiplying.

Social Studies

We utilized the keyword strategy to make sense of the text as we're reading and taking notes!

Which put everything we learned at Mission San Juan Bautista in context!

Reader's Workshop

We're continuing to practice our skills on inferring and using textual evidence as support!

We also read an article and referred back tot he text to find information to support each side of the argument!

Writer's Workshop

We began to type and revise/edit our flash draft for our persuasive writing unit!

And we had some time for some fictional writing!

And that's a wrap folks! Cheers!
