Friday Afternoon Post (Dec 15)

Howdy Folks!

Let see what we've been working on this week.....

Reading

We've been continuing to read non-fiction texts, and making meaning of those texts by close reading! Close reading is where we'll read parts or chunks of a text to get a basic understanding, and then we'll read it again for a various reasons (like taking notes, or referring back to the text to find clues for inferences, etc.) Our reason this time for close reading is to, indeed, take notes for our informational guidebook!

Writer's Workshop

We've been going through the research process, looking through sources, taking notes, brainstorming as to how our information is going to be presented/organized, reciting what we plan on writing, and then...drafting!

Math

We've been discussing and converting various units in Customary Units! We noticed that customary units are slightly more challenging to convert than metric units, as metric units utilize a base-10 system (multiply/divide by 10, 100, 1000, etc. to convert), whereas customary units of measures are just that: Customary and random! (1 foot = 12 inches? That's random! A mile is equivalent to 5280 feet? Definitely not as easy as converting metric units!)

We also had Art Vista this week too, wherein we collaborated with a partner to create face masks that we'll paint during a future Art Vista lesson!

Pokemon Friday happened this week!

And we got to hang out with our Kinder Buddies and share our written stories with them! They then read us their "how-to" guidebooks!

And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers, and enjoy the weekend!
