Wednesday Evening Post (Februaury 7, 2018)

Howdy Folks!

Let's talk about the work we've been doing this week so far!

Writer's Workshop

We've been working on our writing stamina and seeing how much we can write in about about an hour's worth of time. We're doing this becasue we know that in the upper grades and through college, there will be multiple moments in which we are asked to write a full essay in a limited amount of time, so it's good to start practicing writing in that sort of setting NOW!

We're also practicing on using linking phrases to elaborate on our reasons as a way to support our claim! Utilizing linking phrases makes our writing more cohesive, more clear, and more easier to understand!

Math

In math this week, we've been working on fractions, specifically, analyzing and solving word problems that deal with fractions. On top of that, we've been working on converting improper fractions into proper mixed numbers, by setting up equations, and by decomposing! Today, we worked on setting up line plots, and analyzing line plots to answer questions!

Reading

We're getting into our social studies texts and reading about the setting up of missions, which can very, very dry reading... How do we make meaning out of (boring) texts such as this? Well, we sketch and label to clarify our understanding!

And that's a wrap folks! Cheers!

Working on containing coughs to the elbow region!
